However the profile of a used car dealership nowadays has changed dramatically over the past few years and you are more likely to be dealing with a trained professional who really knows about cars rather than an unscrupulous character just after the contents of your wallet.
A car dealership is a business, and most businesses have had to sharpen up their practices over the last decade or so. Sloppy practices have to a large extent been cleaned up and the sales people have to deal with you in a professional and transparent manner.
Another catalyst for change for the better has also been the internet, where professional companies can really stand apart with the quality of information on offer and the possibilities of adding value to the end user.
Of course, whilst things have improved, there are still companies and individuals out there ready to fleece the unsuspecting customer, so you still have to be on your guard, but thankfully these types of business models are becoming rarer.
So as long as you are careful, you stand a much better chance of leaving the showroom without your exhaust falling off 100 metres down the road….
